Turns out this one SEO variable is way more important then we thought!

Hi Reader,

Several weeks ago some documents from Google were leaked on the internet. These documents revealed detailed information about how Google works.

As SEO specialists, we all have our theories, but these documents provided proof that some of the things we optimize websites for do matter. And in fact, they matter more than we thought.

SEO, which stands for "Search Engine Optimization", is the process of optimizing your website to rank better on search engines, such as Google.

Many SEO specialists, including myself, optimize for something called "user experience". These documents proved that Google is tracking how long people stay on your website and how many times they click. It is then ranking websites with better user experience higher than those that have poor user experience.

The user experience on your website has to do with how easy or hard it is for someone to interact with your website on mobile and desktop, and therefore find what they are looking for. How long people stay on your website, how many times they click, and your overall conversion rate, is going to help you (and Google) understand your websites user experience.

User Experience (or UX) is directly related to things such as:

1) The navigation of your website. How easy is it for people to find what they are looking for? This isn't just related to the top navigation menu, but the whole navigation of the site, how you set up the "user journey", and strategic CTA placement.

2) High contrast colors and easy to read fonts. Certain fonts and colors are very hard to read, especially if placed against a busy background. The colors, fonts, and layout of your site can have a huge impact on how long users stay and if they are able to navigate your website.

3) Site speed. One of the reasons site speed affects SEO so much is because it directly affects user experience. If your website loads slowly, people are less likely to stick around in the first place (let along interact or click through).

Are you worried about your website's user experience?

I'm offering free UX audits (exclusive to this email list!). I'll take a quick look at your website and send you a short video with my thoughts! I'll also include a free SEO audit, if you like. Just reply to this email with your website URL!
